Comment

Much of my journalistic career has been shaped by my work in opinion writing and comment. Here are samples of my written work:

Climate

Also for The Guardian, I wrote about the intersection of renters’ rights and sensible green policy.

For The i Paper, I wrote about how the LA wildfires show climate change spares no one – not even the rich.

For Hyphen, I wrote about how the anti-Ulez movement evolved into an Islamophobic smear campaign against Sadiq Khan

I analysed the rightwing abandonment of climate policies across the Global North for The Guardian.

I’ve also spoken out against the construction of the Silvertown Tunnel in East London, which already is experiencing a disproportionate amount of the capital’s air pollution for The Guardian.

I wrote about how young people like Greta Thunberg shouldn’t be expected to pursue climate action alone in The i Paper.

In Novara Media, I called for armchair strategists of the climate movement to engage with groups on the ground.

I’ve delved into why current narratives on climate anxiety are failing us for Refinery29.

I analysed the UK’s climate culture war and how it finally arrived in full force in the summer of 2022 for gal-dem.

Social Justice/Politics

After the Labour Party secured a historic election victory, I analysed what was next for the left for Hyphen.

There is a moral panic that too many people are being diagnosed with ADHD, in Women’s Health, I argued that the real scandal was the underfunding into the NHS

Since Russia invaded Ukraine, it’s been missed just how much of its cannon fodder is made up of ethnic minorities. I wrote about this in Novara Media.

After the Sarah Everard marches in the UK, I wrote about how Reclaim These Streets’ girl boss feminism will never set us free for gal-dem.

Culture

I’ve also written much about culture, analysing social media trends, television and the arts.

In Dazed, I argued that the ‘deinfluencer’ is just an influencer in disguise and explored Molly-Mae Hague’s controversial comments about hard work reaping rewards.

When a climate activist threw a cake at the Mona Lisa, I argued in his defence in Elephant Magazine.

I wrote about gal-dem magazine’s heartbreaking closure and how the fight for a better media must go on in Hyphen Online.

I looked at how I May Destroy You navigated dysfunctional family dynamics for Bustle UK.

I wrote about influencers in the pandemic and how ‘working’ in Dubai prove their industry can’t exist without exploitation for gal-dem.
